Thank you for visiting Northern Lights Cakery. We are a small bespoke bakery and cake design studio based on the spellbindingly beautiful west coast of Scotland.
I’m Kate, the Northern Lights Cakery owner and head baker, and I’ve been baking ever since I could hold a whisk. As a professional baker, I am mainly self-taught, with my passion for beautiful and delicious bakes guiding me to develop my unique style of baking and decorating.
I take pride in my attention to detail and I love working with my clients to come up with stunning, one of a kind cake designs.
Northern Lights Cakery was born when I lived in the remote Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland where the aurora borealis would light up the winter sky. I hope to bring the astounding beauty of the natural world into the cakes that I create for my clients.
My cakes are inspired by the abundant natural beauty that surrounds us and I channel this into my work, whether in the form of the sweeping and swirling colours of the northern lights, or the delightfully hued edible flowers and foliage that I grow or forage in my garden, community polytunnel bed, or the hills around the NLC headquarters.
The changing seasons and the environment of the Scottish highlands and islands feed into our cake designs and flavours, with a new menu posted as the seasons change. I’m dedicated to using the freshest ingredients of the highest quality, and I support local producers wherever possible.
Each cake or bake is designed, baked and decorated from start to finish in the Northern Lights Cakery kitchen and receives personal attention, dedication and unbound imagination from me. You are in for a treat!
